Phalangites in Mail Armour

Lads I would appreciate your views on this issue i.e. did these really exist within the context of Successor armies and if so when?
I am a tad troubled by this as I have not read any sources clearly stating that they did. I have read of Argyraspides turning into imitation legionaries and of course of thyreophoroi getting mail armour but I have no clue where the idea that phalangites were equipped in mail, came from.

I would appreciate your input on this as I would love to use the above miniatures but will not do so if they are not historically justified.
