Hi GM, the rules are pretty flexible. The OPS supplement I'm using to run the overall campaign is designed to be solo played, but the table top rules can be used either head to head, same side or solo. The reaction system at the core of THW (although I actually use a mix of v1 and v2 mechanics) can pretty much run a side, and FNG has lots of tables like "VC/NVA activation table" which dictates what they do. They're a very clever set of rules, although seem to have suffered in the latest incarnation by having to follow the core THW mechanics which I think have bloated and become very dice heavy.

The only decisions I made for the VC were to ignore the activation table when it meant they would have charged the US at one point. The reaction system generated who could fire, who they'd fire at and what they'd do when fired upon.
