Workbench or What's Cooking? :-)

This is for telling other people what we currently paint/build/prepare.
I think seeing other people moving on with their projects would also serve as an incentive for us to get on with our current work.

I am currently finishing Klenau's IV Corps second line division in 6mm Napoleonics plus 2 regiments of light horse for the corps' light division.

Aki I take it you are shooting for the battle of Leipzig?

This thread is a capital idea. I will rename it Workbench and we can all post pictures of our WIP models and also write about our imminent projects.

For my part my main project at the moment is completing yet another force for my Darkest Africa 28mm collection. This time a Ngoni tribal force.

Other than that I am also painting 10mm of various ilks and periods such as Celts, Imperial Romans and even some Arabs.

although 6mm is not my cup of tea I look forward to seeing Androklis work and I am always happy to see Theo's 10mm armies :)

On my painting table I still have tons of 28mm Napoleonics. I have almost finished 1 battalion of West Prussian Fusiliers and I am soon going to start working on a battery of Prussian Guns. Lastly some time soon I am planning on painting the Russian High Command from the Perry range. This set will be my entry to La Bricole's "Salamanca Painting competion".

Moving on to 28mm French and Indian Wars, have been putting off doing these bloody uniforms for over a year!

We are about to start building some new modular terrain at the club.
It is either going to be thick blue styrofoam on MDF or just MDF and I will have to model things on it.
I am inclined towards the first option since it allows to do more things, I am just worried about the soft edges of the styrofoam board.
Any ideas/pictures/links that could be of help or inspiration?

If you're wondering about the soft edges of styrofoam you can coat them with a mix of white glue and Pollyfilla (fine grained wall filler). It's a bit of a mess to apply but it dries in a hard and resilient layer. It won't protect the styrofoam from heavy impacts but you'll be safe from the occasional bump or poking finger.

Androklis - Diane and I made around 100 60cm square boards using the blue foam over in the Crete. I was worried about the durability of the boards, so we stuck them on to 3mm mdf squares. Having made a lot of free standing ridges and hills out of the blue stuff, I've come around to the opinion that the mdf was probably unnecessary - it adds a lot of weight though that helps keep the boards in place. Having said that, it does also mean another possible margin of error. You need to be precise with your cutting otherwise you get problems with lining the boards up without gaps on the table. For the most part we were OK.
To protect the boards, we coated the upper surface with concentrated PVA and then dunked the whole thing in a sand and gravel mix. It dries very quickly. Before putting on the base coat on the terrain boards, we then coated the edges of each of the boards with a slightly watered down PVA. It helps to bond and protect the vulnerable edges of the boards.
We've been using the boards for three years now, lots of gamers using them, some not that careful! So far, I have only had to do minor running repairs on a handful of the boards.
When you give the boards their undercoat, paint the top (obviously) and the edges too. This extra paint layer will really help.

Theo very kindly put us in touch with a firm in Heraklion that sell Tiktas, the blue foam. So he might be able to help out too.

Just finished mounting the 2nd austrian division on their bases.
Almost done with the whole corps artillery & command figures.
The corps will be probably finished by next weekend.

Finished with the infantry, I am mounting the artillery and starting the next project.
Most probably the Westphalian Corps (VIII) of 1812 or
the Baden, Berg, Confederation of the Rhine & Hesse-Darmstadt units of the 1812 OoB.
Next week I am also starting a 1812 Riga campaign.

Apart from a small army of various models in various scales and periods that still need to be based I still have undercoated works in progress. Geek points for who can recognize the most :)

We have to find larger tables!!!!

I've started two issues, one is the Varangians (10mm old glory) and another is Roman legionaries (28mm gripping beast).
I've done a convertion to varangian shields to do biggers.

Also think to do something with 1/72 zvezda miniatures strelets infantry.

Those Romans are coming on beautifully mate.
